Software prototype development, application moqups & wireframes design

Prototyping is an integral part of the process of creating a complex site. Prototyping provides an opportunity to test ideas in a concept or TOR without the expense of writing code.

The Four Phases of Prototyping
01 Sketch

A sketch is a low fidelity schematic. Convenient for instant testing of ideas. Drawn by hand on paper, as well as on the board during brainstorm sessions.

02 Frame

Wireframe is a low-level diagram of a web page. It conveys the structure of the page, the location of important elements. The goal of developing a wireframe is to model the basis of the user interface.

03 Layout

Mockup is a static prototype of medium or high detail. It already has all the components of visual design: color scheme, font samples, banners, logos.

04 Interactive Prototype

As close as possible to the finished site (without the server part). Characterized by high precision and dynamic elements that respond to mouse clicks, and animations are also possible. An interactive site prototype is a test model of a future web application.

Competencies
  • Detect interface problems early.
  • Developing several options for the visual style and UI.
  • Project presentation to stakeholders.
  • Conducting usability testing prior to actual development.
  • Effective distribution of tasks in a team.
Prototype development

Designing is a key process in creating a website. This is the software development stage at which the main functional components of the future system are determined. Designing allows you to think through the entire project in general terms, in order to then implement the plan in stages.

Now the concept of Discovery Stage is gaining popularity - the stage of turning a project idea into a technical task that can be implemented. This is exactly the meaning that we put into the design phase.

A prototype is a schematic representation of the site's pages in the form of a dynamic sketch, a sketch that shows the interactions and structural elements of the future site. For example, menu, registration, search, articles and so on. The prototype allows you to click on the buttons and feel the interaction with the site as if it had already been developed.

Thus, prototyping consists of four phases:

  • Sketch (sketch) is a low fidelity schematic sketch. Convenient for instant testing of ideas. Drawn by hand on paper, as well as on the board during brainstorm sessions.
  • Wireframe (wireframe) is a low-level diagram of a web page. It conveys the structure of the page, the location of important elements. The goal of developing a wireframe is to model the basis of the user interface.
  • Layout (mockup) is a static prototype of medium or high detail. It already has all the components of visual design: color scheme, font samples, banners, logos.
  • Interactive prototype - as close as possible to the finished site (excluding the back-end). It is characterized by high accuracy and the presence of dynamic elements that respond to mouse clicks. It is also possible to draw animations. An interactive site prototype is a test model of a future web application. With it, you can conduct user testing up to the programming stage.
